Our kindergarten program runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:50am to 3:30pm. Note the program begins at the start of the school year with all our other classes and ends in early June.

Q- How old does my child need to be to start kindergarten?

A – Children need to be five years old as of September 1st of the school year they register for kindergarten.

A - Register online HERE.

Q- Can I apply to have my child start kindergarten early?

A- Early entrance may be approved for children who turn five years old between September 1 and December 31 of the school year they register for kindergarten.

Early Learning Programming

Early entry to PRSD’s Early Childhood and Kindergarten programs is available as early as the age of two years, eight months old (2.8). Early Childhood programs are offered at every PRSD school and are designed to support students who have been identified by Alberta Health Services with severe disabilities and delays. Q- Does the school offer extra support for students with delays or special needs?

A – Yes, all of PRSD’s Kindergarten and Early Childhood programs offer specialized support for students with delays or special needs.

Q- Are there full-time kindergarten programs in all PRSD schools?

A- Full-time kindergarten is offered in Peace River at Springfield Elementary School, in Grimshaw at Grimshaw Public School, in Red Earth at Red Earth Creek School and in Berwyn at Lloyd Garrison School. All other PRSD schools offer various part-time program options. Please check with the school for more information.

Q- Are there any fees for kindergarten?

A- No

Q- Is there a kindergarten open house, orientation or meet and greet events?

A- No, due to COVID-19, there are no kindergarten open house events planned.

Q- Is school bus transportation provided?

A- Students that reside outside town or village limits who are more than 2.4 kms from their designated school are eligible for school bus transportation at no cost. Bus passes can be purchased for children that live less than 2.4 kms from their designated school, or they may also qualify for interschool bussing (in communities that have more than one school). Note there are no kindergarten buses that run during lunch time for half time programs.

Q- What will my child need to bring?

A- Your child will need to bring a backpack, indoor and outdoor shoes and a lunch kit. Please contact your local school for more detailed information regarding if and what other supplies may be needed.

Q- When is the first day of kindergarten?

A- Kindergarten start dates vary. Please contact your local school to find out when kindergarten begins.

Q- Is kindergarten programming offered in English and French Immersion?

A- All PRSD schools offer English kindergarten programs and in the Town of Peace River, Springfield Elementary School offers kindergarten programming in both English and French Immersion.
